Medication for Panic Attacks – How To Find The Best Panic Attack Treatments?

Article by Paris Lee

It is normal for a person to panic when sensing danger as this is a defense mechanism that assists to protect us from a threat. However, when a panic attack is recurring regularly without notice and there is no actual presence of a threat, then it could be symptoms of a panic attack disorder. Medication for panic attacks can help people suffering from this medical condition associated with a sudden deep sense of fear. Some signs of the attack include palpitation, breathlessness, nausea and chest pain. While this condition is sometimes incorrectly recognized as a heart attack, it is not physically threatening. An attack can also be a symptom of social phobia, or the fear of being embarrassed in front of crowds, which could develop into self-esteem problems and social awkwardness.

A number of prescribed medications are available from the doctors. One example is beta blockers, which helps in managing the physical symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks like palpitation and shaking. Tricyclic antidepressants are also used to avoid panic attacks and obsessive compulsive disorder. However, these drugs have many side effects like weight gain, blurry vision and constipation. Newer types of anti depressants that also work are Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) like Prozac and Zoloft. However, these medications are only for short term use.

Other than using medication for panic attacks, there are also a few natural remedies that can prevent these attacks. A person should stay away from stimulants like smoking or beverages which contains caffeine such as coffees. Maintaining a balanced diet is also important. A number of studies reveal that nutritional deficiency in zinc and magnesium can lead to these attacks. You could also learn to meditate, practice breathing techniques to help you relax or perform exercises like yoga which can help in muscle flexibility and relaxation. If your panic attack is triggered by social phobia, try to develop your social skill to improve your confidence level. Try not to be so self critical because everyone makes mistakes.

There are also therapies available for those who suffer from panic attack disorder or anxiety apart from positive reinforcements and medication for panic attacks. Psychotherapy is a vital element in panic disorder treatment. In particular, a psychotherapy known as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the most helpful for panic disorder and anxiety. By means of this treatment, the sufferer can deal with panic proactively through mind conditioning. This way, he or she can control or manage the physical symptoms of panic disorder by minimizing its effect to the body and the mind. The body can learn to relax with the exercises and breathing techniques performed during CBT. This is usually conducted by a qualified counselor, therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist. There are also self-help books and materials available for CBT that could aid in treating panic attack successfully for those who prefer natural remedies before seeking help from medication for panic attacks.

Panic attack disorder is a treatable condition and is not a mental disorder. A majority of sufferers who undergo proper treatments have greatly minimized or eliminated the symptoms. Therefore, don’t ignore the signs or be ashamed to ask for professional help or advice on natural remedies or medication for panic attacks. The sooner you get help, the easier it is to prevent it from developing into a more complicated condition or disorder.

Are you interested in natural cures for panic attacks prior to seeking help from medication for panic attacks? 10 Best Jobs

Finding a job that you enjoy and that you feel comfortable doing can be challenging if you suffer with social anxiety disorder (SAD). Often your choice of job will be dictated by how far along you are in terms of diagnosis and treatment. People who have successfully managed to overcome and learn to cope with symptoms of social anxiety are better equipped for positions that are socially demanding.

At the same time, people with SAD are often suited to particular types of jobs regardless of how well they have learned to cope with social anxiety. Jobs that involve working with numbers, animals and objects are often good choices because they don’t require constant interaction with other people. Below is a list of jobs that might be rewarding for people with SAD.

1. Writer

Writing is a dream job for many. Unfortunately it can be a hard profession to enter and earn an income doing right away. Whether you want to write fiction, non-fiction, advice columns, or technical manuals, it is probably best to get your start working at a job that allows you to put pen to paper such as a technical writer or copy writer. As you build your confidence you can eventually move to taking on freelance work and possibly even become a published author.

2. Artist

Artist is another job that might appeal to those who suffer with social anxiety. However, earning a living as an artist can be a difficult pursuit. Most artists take on day jobs to support themselves while they do their art on the side. If you have passion for this type of work, think about related jobs that might give you the same creative outlet and ability to work alone. Graphic design might be an option that gives you the opportunity to support yourself as an artist.

3. Stay-at-home Parent

Stay-at-home parent also made the top 10 list of worst jobs for people with SAD. This is not an accident. Although there can be many social demands on a parent, there is also a lot of flexibility and time spent at home, which can be comforting for those with social anxiety. As a parent you can control your own schedule and balance time spent in social activities with quieter time spent alone with the kids. Just be sure that you don’t allow yourself to become isolated or deny your children opportunities because of your social fears.

4. Dog Trainer

Dog trainer is one example of a job working with animals that might be appealing to those with SAD. Other possibilities include veterinary technician, kennel operator, or zookeeper. If you enjoy working with animals these can be rewarding positions that require some social interaction but also give you space to work quietly and independently.

5. Accountant

Accountants manage bookkeeping and financial details for businesses and individuals. If you excel at math and enjoy working with numbers, being an accountant can give you the opportunity to work independently. Whether you work for a company or as a private accountant, there will be some level of interaction required with others. Focus on your abilities and be confident in your work, and your comfort level with this aspect of the job will increase.

6. Landscaper

Landscapers can work for landscaping companies, golf courses or as private entrepreneurs. If you are looking for a job with little social interaction, landscaping can give you the freedom to spend your day alone and outdoors. These jobs are particularly good if you are not happy working in an office environment. If you decide to run your own landscaping company, however, you will need to become adept at communicating with customers.

7. Entrepreneur

Entrepreneurs or business owners work for themselves, set their own schedules, and are responsible for their own success. The advantages of being an entrepreneur as a person with SAD are that you have complete control over what you do. Although you will probably have to talk to customers or deal with suppliers, you do not have a supervisor to answer to or coworkers to work alongside. As an entrepreneur, you can also hire other people to do jobs that you don’t enjoy.

8. Firefighter

While being a police officer is on the list of the 10 worst jobs for people with SAD, being a firefighter makes the 10 best. Although firefighters have interaction with the public and must work alongside coworkers, they also work with objects and have set expectations for their jobs. Many firefighters also work schedules that give them several days off in a row, which can be a chance to recuperate from the demands of work for those with social anxiety.

9. Computer Programmer

Computer programmers must be detail oriented, enjoy solving problems, and have the ability to focus for long periods of time. While there is some degree of social interaction required of programmers, employees in these positions are generally valued for their programming skills rather than their ability to communicate. If you like computers and don’t mind sitting for long periods of time, this can be a good job that allows you to work independently.

10. Counselor

Counselor or therapist might not be the first job you think of for those with social anxiety. However, when in a position to help others overcome SAD, this can be an ideal job. You understand what your clients are experiencing, you are a good listener, and you likely have a communication style that others with social anxiety will not find threatening. If you have received treatment and overcome your social anxiety, you are in a perfect position to help others do the same.

In the end, only you know what the right job is for you. Some people with social anxiety still crave the company of others even though they are fearful. If this is you, a job with more social interaction might be more appropriate. The most important advice to keep in mind is to never let your social anxiety prevent you from pursuing a career that you enjoy.

Living with Anxiety? Find the Best Anxiety Attack Treatment For You

Living with Anxiety? Find the Best Anxiety Attack Treatment For You

I wanted to scream. I remember myself trying to say to my husband that I was feeling weird, but I couldn’t talk even tough all my body and mind was shouting Anxiety Attack Help. At that time I wanted the best anxiety attack remedy. I had several anxiety attacks and they are frightening but the good thing is, episodes are generally harmless. In most cases, attacks rarely last for more than 30 minutes, with peak of intensity within the first 10 minutes.

These are the symptoms of anxiety attack episode

Hyperventilation Heart palpitation (increase in heartbeat) Hot flashes or chills Feeling detached or unreal Nausea or stomach crams Sweating Chest discomfort or pain Choking sensation Dizziness Feeling of losing control, going crazy; or fear of dying Trouble breathing Surge of overwhelming panic Trembling or shaking

Anxiety attack help comes in all shapes and sizes.

To handle an anxiety attacks try this tips and treatments:

Relax – Even though it is often impossible to relax during an attack, do not submit yourself to your emotion. Breathe. During an anxiety attack, focus your breathing to slow down your heartbeat. Deep breathing helps calms and relaxes your mind and body.

Think positively – Again, during an anxiety attack, it is often impossible to relax or even calm yourself, but you have to be in control. Push more optimistic thoughts to your head. Instead of thinking that you are going to faint because you cannot take the pressure, think of things that are positive and nice. Do no think that something bad will happen. Keep in mind that the more you think negatively, the more anxious and panicky it is going to be.

Think that it will be over soon – and it will. Anxiety attacks rarely last for more than 30 minutes so relax. You don’t even have to count every minute that passed. What you should be doing is be conscious that it will not going to last forever.

Start an exercise program – Exercise has lots of benefits both to the mind and the body. It is also a great stress buster and anxiety reliever. Experts agree that as little as 30 minutes of exercise, 3 to 5 times a week is enough to reduce the chances of having anxiety attacks and at the same time lower the level of stress. What we do can have an effect on our quest for anxiety attack help. It is also a good idea to take some time and practice deep breathing exercises even if you are not stressed or feel anxious.

Talk to someone you trust – It can be your wife or husband, a friend, a relative or a therapist. Often, having someone who listens and understands what a person is going through will make a lot of difference. This is because it allows you to bring out your emotion rather than keeping it to yourself.

Meditation – has long been credited to relieve stress and anxiety as it promotes the release of negative energy from the body, relaxes tensed muscles, and calms the mind, which in turn, effectively reduces irrational fear and apprehension. Meditation may not be for all because of the time required to master the technique, however, with proper guidance of an expert or a little bit of patience and dedication, you can reap its benefits.

Breathing technique – is one of the most effective ways in controlling anxiety attacks. Proper breathing helps slow down heartbeat and helps calm the tensed muscles as a result of the attack. Breathing also diverts the mind’s attention from the “trigger” and calms the self, thus, stopping the attack even faster. Proper breathing techniques are easy to learn and master.

Herbs – (such as passion flower, lavender, chamomile and ginkgo biloba) are very effective long-term treatment for anxiety attacks. Since they are all-natural, they posses no side effects. They may not be as aggressive as prescription drugs but they work just as effective.

Prescription medicines – are a major help in stopping the symptoms of anxiety and episodes of anxiety attacks. Antidepressants are the most common anxiety treatment. They must be taken continuously, which may take as long as six weeks before noticing the effects. Beta-blockers are a type of drugs that prevent symptoms from recurring.

Eat balanced diet – Like exercise, a well-balanced diet is important in keeping the body healthy, resistant to illnesses, and reduce stress level. Try to eat natural or organic foods. Keep away from processed foods or those that include preservatives and chemicals. These are some processed foods:

Packaged cakes and cookies Sugary breakfast cereals White breads and pastas made with refined white flour, which are not as healthy as those Frozen fish sticks and frozen dinners Boxed meal mixes Made with whole grains High-fat convenience foods, like cans of ravioli Packaged high-calorie snack foods, like chips and cheese snacks Canned foods with lots of sodium Processed meats

Therapies – are a very important anxiety treatment. These target the psychological aspect of anxiety. CBT or the cognitive-behavioral therapy is used to alter the way of thinking – converting negative thoughts into positive ones. Techniques used in CBT include role-playing and relaxation technique. Exposure therapy exposes the person to the physical sensations of panic in a safe and controlled environment. Through repeated exposure, patients gain greater self control and more confidence in facing fearful situation.

Avoid smoking and caffeine. Caffeine (from coffee, soda and tea) as well as smoking cigarettes can provoke anxiety attacks. It is wise, to avoid these things as much as possible.
